DIY doll sized diner menu printable for American Girl dolls {Maryellen doll giveaway}

written by Leanne Heilman

By Tyler, Mr. DoerAll American Diner Menu with foods pinnableMy first introduction to American Girl Dolls came along with my first trip to New York City. I had never heard of them before, but one of the two things my wife insisted we do was go by the American Girl store while we were there. What started out as a concession, turned out to be a surprisingly fun stop.

Once in the store I started to wander around with the hope that I'd be able to distract myself long enough for her to see what she came for. Instead, I was immediately blown away by all the accessories and attention to detail, especially in the historical dolls, now called the BeForever line.

Esquites recipe: roasted corn with lime & manchego cheese dip

written by Leanne Heilman

By Leanne, Mrs. DoerRoasted corn with lime and manchego cheese appetizerA few weeks ago, my cousin took me to one of her favorite Seattle restaurants, Señor Moose in Ballard, to try a corn dish that she adored. The description said roasted corn and epazote with cream, and I had a hard time imagining how that would taste, but I decided to trust her and take a chance. I’m glad that I did, because one bite of their famous Esquites appetizer, and I was sold.

Outdoor curtains from tablecloths and DIY curtain rod

written by Leanne Heilman

By Tyler, Mr. Doer

Part of the reason that we fell in love with our house was because it included a large covered porch with high ceilings and a place to sit and talk. While the beauty of the porch was always there, we really had never fully utilized the space and it always just felt unfinished and unwelcoming. With harsh light and a fabulous view of the side of the neighbor's house, there was a lot to be desired about our outdoor space and I never knew what to do about it.  Before
But, recently our porch got a much needed makeover and I couldn’t be happier with the results. I had always wanted to add outdoor curtains to our space, but after pricing them online and in stores, I realized outdoor curtains are crazy expensive if you have a tall space like we do. I thought about just going to get fabric to sew my own curtain, but then I had a brilliant idea: we could use tablecloths.

How to: Spiral cut hot dogs

written by Leanne Heilman

By Tyler, Mr. DoerGrillingWith a sweet grill and an awesomely fun backyard, it’s really no surprise that this summer we’ve been doing a whole lot of outdoor grilling. Because of this, I spend a lot of time finding grilling recipes and tips and tricks online.

Anyone who searches recipes regularly already knows that there are not a whole lot of hot dog grilling recipes out there, at least if we’re talking store-bought dogs. Really, there’s just not a lot of innovation in the way of grilling hot dogs and everyone pretty much does them the same way, right?

Well, I used to think so. Now I've got a new favorite way to cook dogs and I may never go back to my old ways. Introducing the spiral cut hot dog.

DIY Easter terrarium kit centerpiece

written by Leanne Heilman

By Leanne, AKA Mrs. Doer

Ever since having kids, I've had really bad luck keeping any sort of plants alive. In terms of priorities, plants are somewhere on the list in between dusting the baseboards and organizing the kids' closets. I've heard awesome things about how low maintenance terrariums are, so I thought this might be the perfect solution to adding some green, living decor to our home.

Since I'm a novice terrarium maker, I opted for the DIY terrarium kit from ProFlowers called Going for a Ride Moss Terrarium. The picket fence, the bike, the reindeer moss – I loved it all and couldn't wait to put my own spin on it. I began to collect fun spring-themed goodies to make myself a scene that would be perfect as an Easter centerpiece.

DIY embroidery hoop bow and clip holder {tutorial}

written by Leanne Heilman

By Leanne, AKA Mrs. Doer

I think I had 5 clips the entire time I was growing up. My older daughter has dozens. While they are admittedly adorable, they also drive me crazy when I can’t find the one I’m looking for or when one lands on the floor and gets stepped on. And, her collection has only grown now that we’ve got another little girl who is helping add to the pile.

We’ve tried single ribbon bow holders, but we filled it up in no time and soon we needed another. So, we got a second holder, which we then we filled up within months. So, what’s a mom to do?

That’s why the DIY Embroidery Hoop Hair Clip Holder was born. They say necessity is the mother of all inventions, and in this case that is definitely true.
